The Believer's Priceless Inheritance
"When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory."
Ephesians 1: 13-14

God has bestowed upon us a spiritual inheritance that is available to us as heirs of his grace through Jesus Christ in the promise of eternal life. Titus 3:7 states, "So that, justified by his grace, we might become heirs, having the hope of eternal life." Hebrews 1:2 "But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe."
Obeying God's word is our greatest treasure, as it brings true happiness. We ought to invest in learning the word of God and doing righteous acts; these will be more precious than gold, as it will lead us to our salvation. 1 Peter 1:3-5 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his extravagant mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."
Believers are promised eternal life with God. John 3:16 states, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Believers are adopted as children of God. Romans 8:16-17 says, "The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ."
Believers receive the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of their inheritance. Ephesians 1:13-14 explains, "When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession." Believers have an inheritance that is kept in heaven, which is imperishable and undefiled. 1 Peter 1:4 describes it as "an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you."
Believers will share in the glory of Christ. Colossians 3:4 says, "When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." Believers are promised an abundant life, filled with God's peace, joy, and presence. John 10:10 records Jesus saying, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." Through Christ, believers have victory over sin and death. 1 Corinthians 15:57 proclaims, "But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
Believers are joint heirs with Christ, meaning they share in all the riches and blessings of God's kingdom. Romans 8:17 highlights this: "If we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory." The verse reminds us that being heirs is not just about receiving the good—it also involves sharing in Christ's sufferings. This does not mean we are called to seek suffering, but rather to remain steadfast in faith and dedication, even through challenges. The promise is that such faithfulness leads to sharing in Christ's glory, a future reward that is far greater than the trials we face.
