How to Cope with Nervous Tension

  Philippians 4:6-7 encourages, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Bringing your worries to God in prayer can provide peace and relief.

Proverbs 3:5-6 advises, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Trusting God's control over your life can alleviate anxiety. Psalm 119:165 says, "Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble." Meditating on Scripture and God's promises can bring comfort and reduce tension.

 1 Peter 5:7 encourages, "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." Believing that God cares about your worries and is willing to help can be very comforting. Philippians 4:8 advises, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Focusing on positive and uplifting thoughts can help reduce nervous tension.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 highlights the importance of companionship: "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up." Seeking support from friends, family, or a faith community can provide encouragement and relief.  1 Thessalonians 5:18 encourages, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." Practicing gratitude can shift your focus from anxiety to thankfulness.

Isaiah 41:10 offers reassurance: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Trusting in God's strength can help you cope with nervous tension.
