Jesus frequently mentioned "Gehenna" as a place of punishment for the wicked. Matthew 5:22 "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. It refers to a valley outside Jerusalem used for burning trash, symbolizing a place of destruction and torment.
In Revelation, hell is depicted as a "lake of fire." Revelation 20:14-15 "Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire." It's a place where the wicked, along with the devil and his angels, are thrown after the final judgment.
Jesus also describes hell as a place of "outer darkness" where there will be "weeping and gnashing of teeth" Matthew 25:30 " And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." This emphasizes the separation from God's presence and the resulting anguish.
The Bible often portrays hell as a state of eternal separation from God, the source of all goodness and life 2 Thessalonians 1:9 "They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might."
