Craft01-Liturgical Cross Stained Glass

Children will create a glowing “stained glass” window using tissue paper. When sunlight shines through, the colors help them remember the seasons of the Church year.

Materials

Tissue paper in liturgical colors:

Purple – Advent & Lent

White – Christmas, Easter, Feasts

Green – Ordinary Time

Red – Pentecost & Martyrs

Black construction paper

Clear contact paper or wax paper

Glue stick

Kid's scissors

Optional: gold tissue paper for feast days

Create the Window Frame

Fold a sheet of black construction paper in half.

Cut out a large arch or rectangle, leaving a thick border.

Open it — this becomes your stained-glass frame.

2. Prepare the Sticky Surface

Lay down a sheet of clear contact paper sticky side up. (If using wax paper, spread a thin layer of glue instead.)

3. Add Liturgical Colors

Tear tissue paper into small squares or shapes.

Let children choose colors based on the liturgical season.

Press the pieces onto the sticky surface to make a mosaic.

4. Seal the Artwork

Place another sheet of contact paper on top to seal the tissue paper. (Or add a second wax paper sheet.)

5. Attach the Frame

Glue the black frame on top of the tissue mosaic.

Trim the edges so the frame looks neat and clean.

6. Display the Window

Hang it in a sunny window.

Watch the liturgical colors glow like stained glass.
