The Family Jesse Tree
The Jesse Tree is a beautiful tradition that helps families prepare for the coming of Christ by tracing His lineage through the Old Testament. Each daily ornament represents a story from the Bible, leading up to the birth of Jesus. It is an engaging way for children and adults alike to see how God's plan for salvation unfolded over thousands of years, anchoring our Advent season in the rich history of our faith.
Where Does the Name Come from?
It's rooted in a prophecy from Isaiah 11:1: "A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots." Jesse was the father of King David, and this prophecy foretells the Messiah descending from David's royal line. The Jesse Tree makes that ancestral journey visible and tangible—especially for children.
Process
Families set up a bare branch or small tree at the start of Advent. Then, each day of Advent, they:
