The Communion of Saints
The Communion of Saints is the spiritual unity shared by all who belong to Christ — believers on earth, souls being purified in purgatory, and the saints in heaven. It expresses the truth that the Church is one living family, joined together across every stage of existence by grace, prayer, and love.
The Church Militant — Believers on Earth
Those who are living their faith now. We support one another through prayer, the sacraments, acts of charity, and daily fidelity to God. Our choices and sacrifices strengthen the entire Body of Christ.
The Church Suffering — Souls in Purgatory
Those who are being purified and prepared for the fullness of heaven. They cannot pray for themselves, but they benefit from our prayers, Masses, and sacrifices. In gratitude, they intercede for us as they draw closer to God.
Those who already share in God’s glory. They pray for us, accompany us spiritually, and encourage us by their example. Their intercession flows from perfect charity united to Christ.
Why This Mystery Matters
The Communion of Saints reminds us that we never walk alone. Every prayer, every act of love, every moment of suffering offered to God becomes a gift shared across the whole Church. It is a mystery of hope: love is stronger than death, and Christ binds His people together in one grace‑filled communion.
